Parks and Wildlife shoot

The weekend before Christmas, a photographer friend invited me to do makeup for a shoot for dresses designed by Myra Centeno (of Centeno Couture) at Parks and Wildlife in Quezon City. I'm not sure if I've been there before, but if I have, I don't remember it at all since when I first got to the park, I was surprised at how picturesque it was! No wonder a lot of photographers hold shoots there.

My models for the day were Sarah, Ame, and Charina. I don't have Charina's shots yet though, so here are Sarah's and Ame's photos for now:

This is Sarah. She's half-pinay, half-british, in case you're wondering. ;)

Selecta Cornetto Tugs Tugs Club (4th GEB)

Last month, I did makeup for the hosts of a Selecta Cornetto event. This is my second time doing so, the first one was during the 3rd Grand Eyeball of the Tugs Tugs Club, and this time it's for the 4th GEB!

Thanks again to Cams for this opportunity! :)

Terracotta Blush + Nude Lips Look

Here's another FOTD post!

I don't really wear blush that much, but last Sunday, I felt like building a look around this terracotta-colored mineral blush that I had but rarely use.

on my cheeks: Micabella Mineral Blush in Siera Suede

It's a rather neutral look although it's a nice way to get to wear nude lips without looking washed out - just pile on the blush!

on my lips: OCC Lip Tar in Petty Beige

Top it off with some eyeliner and falsies for a bit of drama without looking overdone, and you're good to go! :)

Mang Ed's Falsies

One of the best suppliers I found out about when I went to makeup school is Mang Ed. You see, Mang Ed sells false eyelashes in bulk - and by bulk, I mean a minimum of 6 dozen pairs.

6 dozen pairs might seem too much, but for makeup artists, this is a kit staple.

Yesterday I ordered falsies from Mang Ed since my stock was almost out, so I also got to chat with him a bit. Making false eyelashes was originally the business of his wife, but eventually he started helping out more with this. And business seems to be really good, since he says he was able to send 3 kids to college because of it. Now he has a lawyer, an accountant, and a computer science graduate who turned into a makeup artist. Cool, huh? :)

Mang Ed supplies falsies to makeup artists and students of various makeup schools in the country since he is highly recommended by a lot of instructors. And there's no doubt on why the false eye lashes are highly recommended - they're affordable, and at the same time, the pairs that he and his wife makes are the most natural-looking falsies I've used so far. Definitely better than big brands like Ardell for example, in terms of producing false eyelashes that don't look too fake. The lashes are made of human hair but are not perfectly even - but that's what actually makes them very natural looking, since our lashes aren't in perfect or even lengths either.

Styling Digipermed Hair

Sorry for being MIA for weeks again!!! Now I shall compensate by posting a tutorial I mentioned months earlier when I first got a perm but never got around to making - a tutorial on how to style digipermed hair!

This look is for people who would want to keep the original Goldilocks-like quality of fresh-from-the-salon digipermed hair. Observe:

Neat curls right after the perm

Without styling, this is how my hair looks like:

Lots of waves and volume, but if you'd prefer to keep the original state of your digipermed hair, read on for the tutorial!

Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder

I think it was Kevyn Aucoin who said that for most women, all we really need for coverage on the face is a bit of concealer and some powder. Foundation isn't really necessary unless your face would be under great scrutiny - kind of like when you work as a professional model, actress, etc. If you're a makeup junkie or just someone who can't leave the house without being fully made up, this does seem a bit hard to accept - but it's also possible that you're just not using the right products. However, this powder is definitely one of the "right" actually makes me believe that going out without foundation (or heavier coverage) is possible! :D

Okay, this is beginning to sound like a cheesy ad, click on the "Read more" link below to get on with the review...

Repost: Angelina Jolie Cat Eyeliner Flick Make-up Tutorial

Remember my post on wanting Angeline Jolie-ish cat eye makeup? I almost laughed out loud when I saw this video, it was as if the creator of the video read my mind!

Video is from Pixiwoo on Youtube

I was actually thinking of making a tutorial for a look like this since this has been my default look recently. It's a notch above lazy girl makeup, but is still easy enough to do for busy girls. But lo and behold, there's already a video on it!

Enjoy! :)

In the mood for glitter

Ever since I saw this video from Michelle Phan last year, I've been dying to do a look using glitter:

Isn't the look really pretty?? I've watched this video so many times because I really love how the glitter looks like on the eyes!

The only problem is, I have no idea on where to get cosmetic grade glitter (the kind that's safe for use near the eyes) here in the Philippines. The closest I could get to glitter here are the shimmery loose powders that a lot of big brands and mineral makeup sellers have, the only problem with that is that you really wouldn't get the same level of sparkle that real glitter has.

I've tried searching online, and so far, what I found that was interesting and also had good reviews was the BarryM Dazzle Dust, which was available for preorder through Hoops and Loops on Facebook. Too bad (or maybe lucky for my wallet) the waiting time was too long, so I got turned off from buying it.

Next option was to ask relatives from abroad to buy the glitter. Since my mom was going home from Canada, I asked her to get some for me, and this is what I ended up with:

Make Up Forever Glitter

I didn't even know that Make Up Forever had glitter before I got this! Anyone know if this is locally available?

Got it in 4 colors - #1, #2, #6, and #7

#1 Gold (metallic yellow gold)

#2 Silver (metallic silver)

#6 Green (metallic teal glitter)

#7 Red (bright metallic berry red)

Dress Code Shoot

Here's a shoot I did for work...meaning my non makeup-related job, ok? :)

I did makeup for some materials that I think our HR would be using for new hires, to show some Do's and Don'ts about our office dress code.

Peg for the makeup is just a natural, "polished" look.

Contouring with the MAC Blush in Harmony

Do you contour your face when doing your own makeup? Personally, I didn't even know much about this before attending makeup school, but now, I feel like it's a must whenever I do full makeup on myself! I suppose it has a lot to do with wanting my cheek bones to look more defined, which in effect also makes my face look thinner, haha. Well anyway, this post is about my favorite contouring product these days - the MAC Blush in Harmony.

For the benefit of people who aren't that much familiar with contouring (and highlighting), check out this very informative video made by Petrilude on YouTube:

How to get lighter brows (without bleaching!)

Do you have dark hair and want to get it lightened, but you're afraid of getting dark brows that are too far from your head's hair color?

This was definitely a problem for me when I first got my hair dyed lighter, I just didn't know what to do with my brows! I know some people who have really sparse brows where this wouldn't be a problem, but for us who have brows that will turn bushy if not maintained, it's a big challenge. Of course you can get it dyed along with your hair, but since hair will grow out, the brows would be left without dye while hair on the head remains colored, except at the roots.

I was about to give up on dyeing my hair just because of the problem of matching the color to my brows, until I went to a MAC store and had a salesperson recommend my brow saver -- the MAC Brow set in Girl Boy. The salesperson said that it was their bestseller at that time for getting artista brows ala Mariel Rodriguez. This shade doesn't match my hair anymore, though I still use it when doing heavy eye makeup so that the attention would be drawn to the eyes, and not the brows.

So here's a tutorial on how I use it, as requested by Ivy!

Fairy tale (kind of love) shoot

Haven't posted shoots I did in a while, so here's another one!

My friend Lance shot these, and from the photos I've posted before that were also by him, you'd notice that he really likes his themed shoots. This one's no different.

This year I just did simple looks for Halloween since I didn't really feel like dressing up... But who knows, maybe next year I'll get inspired to wear bongga Halloween costumes ala Heidi Klum also!

But for now, here's what I did this year:

Wore this to work last Friday... Not really makeup-intensive

Toned down 80s makeup for another party... My hair already got a bit flattened by the time I took this picture

I also tried doing "special effects" last week:

The big gash on the left was made using spirit gum + crumbly tissue paper, and the smaller one on the right was made with layered on eyelash glue. Both topped with some foundation, face paint, and eye shadows.

Got the idea of trying this out since my friend Lance wanted me to do Zombie makeup for him, though he didn't want it too messy, just a bit of gore and that's it. This is what he ended up with:

No eye makeup here yet. We were just testing how the "wound" looked like in photos.

Sunken dead eyes... check!

So that was my Halloween this year! How did yours go? :)

OCC Lip Tar review + mixing post

This is a long overdue post, though not without reason. I got these lip tars back in August but only got to make this mixing post now because the colors are SO HARD to photograph!! I really don't understand why, I suppose the colors are too intense for my digicam? I'm no profressional photographer so I couldn't figure out why I couldn't get accurate photos of the color. At first I thought it was because of the dark/cloudy August and September weather so I was waiting for the weather to clear up so I could take photos in bright and natural lighting. Come the end of October, the weather is finally sunnier, but I still couldn't take proper photos. Anyway I decided to just post this and compensate by adjusting the colors through Photoshop, haha.

OCC lip tars (L-R) in Feathered, Rx, NSFW, Petty Beige, and Anime

I got these colors because I figured I could just mix these to get the colors I wanted. Now I think I'm just missing black (for making darker shades) and yellow/orange (to make coral shades), then I'd have all the basic colors I need.

Now for some swatches:

The colors of Petty Beige and Anime are a bit off in this photo, Petty Beige should be lighter and slightly more neutral-toned, while Anime should look less orange-y

Petty Beige and NSFW

NSFW and Anime

Feathered and Rx

Since there's no OCC store in the Phils, and I didn't want to buy through their website, I bought my lip tars from Hoops and Loops in Facebook. They still have a few on hand as of today, just in case you're from the Philippines and want to order! :)

Neutrogena Body Oil

Ok, I think I don't really have much to say when reviewing bodycare products, but I'll try for this one since I love it:

What it is:

Body Oil is a delicately light sesame formula that instantly vanishes into the skin, sealing in moisture. Skin feels moisturized, soft, silky and looks radiant.
    * Lightweight

    * Absorbs quickly

    * Available in Original and Fragrance-free

Quick Post: 80s inspired look!

Halloween's almost here, and this year, I'm thinking of wearing an 80s costume complete with garish makeup. Not a very creative costume to be honest, but I'm not really 100% sure I'll celebrate Halloween anyway so it's probably best not to go all out. Here's the look I tried out, I suppose it's not really authentic 80s, but more of 80s inspired:

Next time I'm making the blush more streaky!

Eye makeup

What are you wearing for Halloween? :)

Etude House Collagen Essence Mask

Have you ever been to a Korean beauty product store and actually noticed their mask selection? I for one, never noticed it until recently, since I almost always go straight to their makeup counter. But one day, after buying a bunch of falsies from Etude House, the saleslady at the counter told me that I'm only about 40 pesos off from qualifying for the Etude House membership card. Of course I got swayed by the sales talk, so I grabbed the cheapest thing in the store that looked like something I would use - a mask!

I remember getting this because at that time, my face was in need of a facial, however I didn't really feel like spending on one. So the next best thing is to just get a mask.

Digiperm experience at Tony and Jackey

When you've had the same type of hair since forever, it's hard not to get sick of it.

Untouched hair circa 2008

So back in 2009, I started changing it up a bit.

Please excuse the face. Haha. Shortest hair ever since 4th grade. Summer 2009

Went light brown in Late 2009

A year (and 4 shades lighter than black) later, I decided it's time for phase 2 of my hair abuse. Time for a perm! Unfortunately my hair was only up to my shoulders then so I had to do some waiting first before it was long enough for the kind of curls I wanted.

Fast forward to September 2011, my hair was finally long enough for a perm. (This pic is actually from earlier in 2011 but it's pretty much the same length)

My hair now.
